That misconception needs to be smashed because recovery is full of encouragement at every turn especially if you want reassurance that you are doing the right thing.

Recovery gets easier

No one ever said that you would be instantaneously better once you put the drink or the drug down. Recovery takes some work because you are building a foundation upon which you can pursue a better life with. If you are sober, there is a much better chance that you can navigate the right direction through the ups and downs of life that you will continue to be faced with.

Setbacks will happen

Life is life and how you choose to respond to the setbacks is up to you. If you keep trudging without picking up a drink or drug when things get rough, you will finally realize that you can get through anything when sober. Using the tools that you have been shown can keep you on the track of recovery and make you stronger for staying on course

Get some support

The best way to find encouragement is to surround yourself with kind and loving people that want you stay sober in treatment, in therapy, or in a 12-Step program. These people will become the cheerleaders for your recovery and give you a reason to reach out even when you do not want to. Getting connected with people that support you is one of the best ways to seal the foundation that you are building upon.

Make recovery a priority

Putting your sobriety first is a must because recovery is a way of life. If people saw how you were living during your addiction, then most likely they will understand how much effort you should put into staying sober and will give you the push that you need to keep going.
